Falcon Ridge Families,
As we approach the holiday season, I’m hopeful that everyone is able to enjoy some additional time with family and friends. One of the building highlights from this past month was our annual Holiday Sharing project. This has been a tradition for many years, with the idea being that students work together to make the world a better place. It also shows them that when each person gives a little, together we can make a big difference! This year we donated gifts to 22 children from 6 different families. Thank you for your participation!
Extra Meals at Lunch
This year, our 4th and 5th grade students are able to 'purchase' tickets for an extra of each day’s main course, giving them an addition to their free meal. This would typically be an 'extra entrée' which costs $2.50. Students are not allowed to purchase an extra entrée without having money in their account to cover that cost.
For students wanting to purchase “extras” at lunch, we respectfully ask that you have money in your students account for these extra entrées. Please know that you can set up alerts in Infinite Campus to tell you when their balance goes below a certain number that are specific to what you choose.
If you are on the phone app in Infinite Campus, you can go to User Menu in the top right corner of the screen and click -Settings-click Notification Settings-click Lunch Balance is low- set amount to which you want an alert, and you will get an alert on your phone.
Please feel free to reach out to Nutrition Services if you need assistance at 952-758-1774.
Parenting Ideas
Who doesn’t want to be a better parent? From time to time, our staff will pass useful tips and strategies on to parents, and while some of you may have seen this story already, it is worth looking at again. Giving chores to our kids doesn’t have to be a burden - here’s why!
Sincerely,
Mr. Dave Giesen

Fashion a Fish
The annual "Fashion a Fish" project took place at Falcon Ridge recently. Working with ocean creatures and fish has been a tradition for science since at least 1989 for our 5th graders. This year about fifty 5th grade students worked with the science concept of adaptations to build not only a homemade fish but to help teach Kindergarten through 2nd grade students the idea that living things need to do things to survive. To do this they took 4 real fish and researched them. They then took things like their mouth and body shape and created an imaginary fish. With all of their research, they then wrote a speech and presented it on December 11th to our K-2 grades.

2nd Grade Spheros
2nd graders in Mrs. Borwege's Class created their very own Thanksgiving Day Parade using Sphero robots! They used the Engineering Design Process to design a float to cover their Sphero. Second graders created a code that followed a Thanksgiving Day Parade Route. They learned about degrees in a circle, friction, mass, and speed, while working through complex problems.
Thank you to retired NPAS teacher, Mrs. Kim Borwege, for helping our second graders (and Mrs. Borwege) use the Spheros!

Everyday Fundraising for Falcon Ridge
In working with our Falcon Ridge PAC, I want to make all of our families aware of some easy ways to support our students at Falcon Ridge by using a few simple steps with businesses that you may already be spending money with:
- Shutterfly - Simply click on this Shutterfly link and start shopping. A percentage will go directly to our Falcon Ridge PAC.
- Coborn's School Rewards - Coborn's, Inc. is committed to donating $150,000 to local entities during the 2019-2020 school year. The points your school earns will help grow their share of the $150,000 total. It's like a pie; the size of your school's slice will depend on how many points they have received. Schools should encourage their supporters to register for their location at moreRewards.com: 1. Go to moreRewards.com, 2. create a login, 3. proceed to login, 4. go to "manage my membership," 5. choose school rewards, 6. select Falcon Ridge, and you are done! It is just that easy! You can also easily add it through the More Rewards phone app: 1. go to rewards, 2. slide the school rewards button to green, 3. below the button there should be an option for you to change to your school, 4. search for Falcon Ridge, and 5. select Falcon Ridge.
